Kitchen Deep Cleaning Checklist for Indian Kitchens

Tempering, frying and daily cooking leave a film of grease on every surface. Here is how to clean an Indian kitchen properly.

Kitchen chimney and stovetop deep cleaning in a Chennai home

Indian kitchens work hard. Daily tempering, frying and long simmering release oil into the air, which settles as a thin film on tiles, cabinets, the chimney and even the ceiling. Left alone, it combines with dust into a sticky layer that is difficult to remove. This checklist helps you tackle it systematically.

Prepare

  • Switch off the gas supply and unplug appliances.
  • Clear counters and, if cleaning inside, empty the cabinets.
  • Keep degreaser, a soft scrubber, microfibre cloths and a dry cloth ready.

Top down

Ceiling and exhaust

  • Wipe the ceiling above the stove, where grease collects.
  • Clean the exhaust fan blades and grille.
  • Degrease the chimney or hood exterior.

Walls and tiles

  • Apply degreaser to tiles behind the stove and let it sit before wiping.
  • Scrub grout lines gently.
  • Clean switchboards and sockets with a barely damp cloth.

Cabinets

  • Degrease cabinet doors and handles, especially near the stove.
  • Wipe the tops of cabinets, which are often the greasiest surface in the kitchen.
  • Clean shelves and drawer interiors, and let them dry before restocking.

Cooking and prep areas

  • Remove burners and clean around them.
  • Clean the stovetop surface according to its material: glass, steel or enamel.
  • Clean granite or stone counters with a pH-neutral cleaner.
  • Descale and sanitise the sink, tap and drain area.

Appliances

  • Clean the fridge interior, shelves and door seals.
  • Wipe the microwave interior and exterior.
  • Clean the mixer grinder base and jars.
  • Wipe the water purifier exterior.

Finish

  • Clean the kitchen window and grille.
  • Scrub the floor, including under-counter edges and corners.
  • Dry all surfaces to prevent streaks and water marks.

How often?

For a kitchen used daily, every two to three months is a good rhythm. Our guide on how often to deep clean your home in Chennai explains how climate and cooking habits change this.

If the grease has built up or time is short, our kitchen deep cleaning service in Chennai handles the full checklist, including cabinet interiors on request.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to remove grease from kitchen tiles?

Apply a suitable degreaser, allow it a few minutes to break down the grease, then wipe with a microfibre cloth and rinse. Avoid abrasive scrubbers on glazed tiles.

Can I use vinegar on granite counters?

It is best avoided. Acidic cleaners like vinegar and lemon can dull natural stone over time. Use a pH-neutral cleaner instead.
